Music of the Spheres
from A Book of the Dead
by Gerhard Reisch

Music of the Spheres

In the stillness of night,
When the being of earth is resting
And the image worlds are silent,
There wells up from the depths of heaven
A sound, So tender,
Like pearls breathed out
Over the dark ground of the world:
Music of the spheres.
Do you hear it, oh my soul?
Your silence must become deeper still.
When in its suffering the soul becomes quiet
And the divine world opens wide:
The cosmos sounds!
Like pearls it rises up
Out of the shadowy depths.
The cosmos sounds,
Like the softest breath
The worlds of the spheres are singing.
